Music magazine double page spread - analysis: Billboard

Billboard

The masthead of the page states ‘Summer T.I.me’ and is the largest and boldest piece of text on the page to allow it to stand out to the reader. Furthermore, it is written in a black font to allow it to stand out in contrast to the white background to add noticeability. The two dots in the heading a blue coloured. This not only brightens the heading, but it also makes the play on words more noticeable; the article regards famous rapper T.I and his many fans will be intrigued to read the article.

There is one main image on the double page spread. It is an A4 image which covers the left-hand page to represent its importance. The image presents a mid-long shot of T.I to allow his attire and stance to be shown. In terms of mise en scene, his body language appears relatively relaxed and confident. Furthermore, he is wearing jewellery around his neck which is a common trait amonst rappers to emphasise his genre of music.  It has been slightly superimposed over the decoration for the article and is in the foreground to further emphasise its importance. T.I is looking directly at the camera. This could act as a personal pronoun as she is looking directly towards the reader and enticing them to personally read the article’s content.

A feature of circles in various vibrant colours has been included circling the heading. These circles cover parts of the text within the article but don’t hide any text. These add colour to the page and make it more noticeable as well as immediately highlighting the title and making that stand out more to the reader.
A language pun is used within the heading of the page as it states ‘Summer T.I.me’. The article surrounds the popular rapper T.I and his name has been incorporated into the masthead subtly.

The heading is written in a simple sans serif font for added noticeability. It is also large and bold to allow it to stand out on the page. In comparison, the font used for the main text within the article is written in a more formal serif font. This font is relatively easy to read and portrays an element of formality and sophistication to link to the classy genre of magazine.
The colour scheme consists of white, blue red and yellow. These colours are generally bright and vibrant to draw the reader’s attention and appeal to the younger target audience. Furthermore, the blue colour is the brightest and is, therefore, used to present the more important or intriguing pieces of text to make them more noticeable to the reader. A colour scheme also adds consistency to the magazine as it will continue throughout each page.

The double page spread is image dominated as there is a large image and little text. Therefore, it includes a 2-column format for the text for added organisation.
The page number is included in the bottom right-hand corner of the page so that the page can easily be found according to the contents to eliminate confusion amongst the audience.
